Understanding Soil Health
Do you know why your property is having whiteflies, ants, and peach leaf curl, to name a few?
I recently wrote in my column here about how trace minerals play an important role in controlling pests and diseases and many of you have sent me emails with questions on how to manage the soil long-term.
So here is my answer;
How to make the soil function again.
First, I feel that I should explain this in a way that folks can better understand the real problem and then we can begin to address the long-term solutions. I think of myself as an earth doctor or soil biology doctor. I do what is needed to get the soil biology back into the soil where it can get
back to work. Takes time for anything to heal and the soil is not different. I talk about how the soil controls all
pests and diseases. A healthy soil that is.
So when you tell me that you are having a whitefly or ant infestation problem and peach leaf curl on your fruit trees, what it means to me is that toxins have killed off the biology of the soil. One has to be willing to be into it for the long haul. Much like keeping our bodies healthy. Long-term
health takes great effort both in ourselves and with our soil.
What must we do to keep our plants as healthy as possible now? The fastest way to get nutrition into plants is through foliar spraying. Keep it simple. One of your best bets is to join our local garden club. Make compost tea. Healing takes time.
